Egypt With Kids: What Actually Works

Travel Tips · 6 min read · Published 2026-05-07

Egypt is a brilliant family destination if you plan it right. Here's what works, what to skip, and how to keep everyone happy.

Kids and pyramids are a great match. The history that can feel abstract to adults is pure adventure to a child: giant tombs, hidden chambers, camels, and a real-life treasure story in Tutankhamun's gold. Egypt works wonderfully with children if you build the trip around their energy rather than against it.

The sites kids actually love The Pyramids and the Sphinx are an easy win, especially with a camel or horse ride thrown in. The Grand Egyptian Museum, with Tutankhamun's treasures, holds attention better than you'd think. A Nile cruise is secretly perfect for families: there's a pool, space to move, and the temples come in manageable bursts between downtime on deck.

Pace it for small legs The biggest mistake families make is packing too much in. Two sites a day is plenty, mornings are best before the heat, and an afternoon by the pool resets everyone. A private guide and driver matter even more with kids, because you set the schedule and can leave when little ones have had enough.

Build in the Red Sea A few days on the Red Sea at the end is the ideal reward. Calm, shallow snorkelling spots let kids see clownfish and coral, and the resorts are set up for families. It turns a history trip into a proper holiday.

Practical bits Bring sun hats and reef-safe sunscreen, refillable water bottles, and snacks for site days. Stick to bottled water, and ask us about child-friendly meal options; Egyptian food has plenty kids enjoy, like koshari, grilled chicken and fresh bread.

The easy way to do it Because every trip we run is private, family pacing is built in by default.
